On Friday, December 14th, AIDS Vancouver was pleased to host a special delegation from Kunming City Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China who came to learn about the Canadian approach to HIV/AIDS.
Chinese delegates included Mr. Yi Li, Project Director for the Kunming Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as officials from the Health Bureau and the Finance Bureau of Kunming City. The delegation came to Canada to learn about the Canadian healthcare system’s antiviral policies, support systems, and preventive approach to HIV/AIDS.
“British Columbia is currently the only region in the world that is experiencing a decline in the number of new HIV infections,” says Dr. Brian Chittock, AIDS Vancouver’s Executive Director, “Sharing our preventive approach not just across Canada, but globally, is vital to putting an end to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.”
The delegation also heard from Travis Salway Hottes, Epidemiologist for the BC Centre for Disease Control. They discussed the “treatment as prevention” approach of STOP HIV/AIDS as well as the Asian Community Outreach Program with Dr. Chittock and other AIDS Vancouver staff.
