AIDS Vancouver is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Directors contribute to the growth and development of AIDS Vancouver and are elected for a two year term at our Annual General Meeting.

AIDS Vancouver is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Directors contribute to the growth and development of AIDS Vancouver and are elected for a two year term at our Annual General Meeting.

Objective

The board's primary responsibility is to formulate the long-range strategic direction for the agency. We seek board members who are visionary, experienced in the ways of non-profit boards, and willing to commit their time, energy and expertise to the betterment of AIDS Vancouver and the communities we serve.

Duties

  • Directors are expected to attend monthly Board meetings.
  • Directors are also required to serve on committees and meet as required.
  • The Board of Directors as a group oversees the performance of the executive Director, inclusive of hiring and evaluation.
  • Directors respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in fund development and community events from time to time.
  • Other duties may arise planned by the executive and general members of the board.

Skills & Attributes

  • Ideally, Board members are individuals who are:
  • Visionary
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experienced in the ways of non-profit boards
  • Willing to commit their time, energy and skills
  • Able to provide expertise to the betterment of AIDS Vancouver and the communities we serve
  • Comfortable working with HIV/AIDS and related issues

Additional Assets

  • Four seats are available for self identified HIV + individuals
  • HIV and health sciences background
  • Finance/accounting experience
  • Fund Development/Communication/marketing background
  • Policy development experience
  • Extensive board experience

Training & Support

  • Board orientation materials and support will be provided.
  • Members are required to attend the following:
  • AIDS Vancouver Agency Orientation and Education session              
  • Agency in-services and training opportunities are optional
