Grocery Worker – Casual

The Grocery Worker is accountable for facilitating the set up days and the distribution periods of the Grocery program by providing support and direction to volunteers, receiving, stocking, preparing for and ensuring the effective distribution of groceries to members of the community, accessing AIDS Vancouver’s Grocery Program. The Grocery Worker works with volunteers and community partners, to ensure optimal service delivery and to enhance client capacity for food security and nutrition.

  • Consults with the Grocery Coordinator on program issues and direction;
  • Works alongside and provides support to Grocery Program volunteers with unloading food products when delivered, stocking and replenishing grocery shelves, greeting and entering clients into the data base, and other grocery functions while supporting volunteers in skill development;
  • Assists with orientation and training of new volunteers
  • Manages changes to Volunteer schedules and communicates with Grocery Coordinator for any troubleshooting;
  • Tracks and enters volunteer hours
  • Maintains grocery program database information by ensuring all clients who visit the grocery are entered properly; updates client lists from community partners; creates reports from the grocery data base including tracking number of visits and number of bags;
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with Community partners (e.g.: Positive Women’s Network, Portland Hotel Society and others);
  • Responds to client enquiries and concerns related to the grocery program;
  • Develops and prepares resources and information to provide to grocery program clients, related to food security and nutrition;
  • Networks with other community groups and/or agencies on program related issues;
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Education and Experience

  • At least 2 years experience working in a high energy non-profit setting; Experience working in a food bank or similar food program is an asset;
  • Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (or willingness to learn)
  • FoodSafe knowledge.
