Question:

I understand that Western Blot (WB) is only for confirmation on positive ELISA. I know most folks turn +ve on 4th Gen ELISA by 4-6 weeks. I read your posts that WB has window period of 8 weeks. So Qs
Q1: Is it conclusive (at least show intermediate) post 8 weeks?

Q2: I am negative on Elisa and WB at 11 weeks, so WB –ve at 11 weeks has no significance because Elisa is NOT +ve? OR it will add to the confidence (sensitivity and specificity) that I am indeed negative.

Question:

Hi
First of all I want to Thank you for the effort you make here guys
Your work is great and I really appreciate it like everybody does.
Second, I have only one question:
I already know that fourth generation test ( combo or duo test) is a combination of third generation Elisa + p24 antigen and you are keep saying that most HIV specialist consider this test to be conclusive at 6 weeks. On the other hand you say that 3rd generation test has a window period from 4 weeks to 12 weeks. However, as we all know p24 is detectable only in the first couple of weeks after infection then it disappears. Thus p24 only is useless if the combo test performed after let's say 4 weeks. As a result combo test in this case will be just like 3rd generation and should have the same window period ( this is the logic). Now why the combo test is considered conclusive at 6 weeks with the absence of p24 after the first couple of weeks while 3rd generation is conclusive after 12 weeks.
I beg you guys to clarify this to me.
Thanks again

Question:

my ELISA combo is negative at 10 weeks,
Q1: is there any other test which can give me good indication at 10 weeks?
Q2: RNA Quantitative will be of any use at 10 weeks considering ELISA is negativeve at 10 weeks (seroconversion is due)

Question:

I know HIV Antibody should be with an infected person permanently, so that we could know whether a person is HIV infected or not by antibody test. However, I heard that the antibody would be disappear when that person become AIDS patient or at some stage of AIDS, is this true? Then when is the good time to get antibody test to know myself status.

Question:

1. Hi i wanted to know is the RNA test better than the 3rd gen test as it looks for the genetic material rather than the antibodies to virus? Therefore is it more accurate? I test negative on a test which took a sample from my arm (guessing this was 3rd gen) at 3 months post exposure. However i am still worried.

2. Furthermore i also wanted to know how are antibodies developed? Do they develop in the blood or does a certain organ's immune response produce the antibodies? Please reply as i am really worried because one of my organs is damaged and therefore i feel that is affecting my body's immune response. I know this sounds silly but could explain how the immure system responds, Thank you really appreciate it

GENEDIA HIV 1/2 ELISA 3.0 is based on direct ELISA principle.
DETECTION OF SEROCONVERTORS :

ACCURATE :
100% sensitivity for anti HIV 1/2 antibody.
HIGH SPECIFICITY :
99.9% Specificity due to use of defined recombinant antigens : p24 & gp41 for HIV 1 & gp36 for HIV 2
CONVENIENT :
Total assay procedure of only 120 minutes

i found this on internet now please can u tell me is it accurate?
is it an elisa?
it is written total procedure of 120 mins but when i called them they said it is not been tested yet but after 15 mins they called and said that it was negetive how can this be ?

Question:

Hi would everyone who has HIV be producing antibodies or test positive on a HIV test by 1 year on a 3rd gen test? This could be regardless of circumstance for example someone who has severe cancer or a bad illness which affects the immune response. Basically would all people who have HIV test positive by 1 year regardless of their condition even if this condition developed after exposure? Thank You
