Thank you very much for addressing my concerns thoroughly (http://www.aidsvancouver.org/what-we-do/helpline/online/what-does-10-12-days-mean).
To follow up on your answer, I am curious about the second test which I didn’t know before. I live in the West End, Vancouver, B.C. Could you help me where to go in order for me to be able to get the 4th Generation EIA
(Duo/Combo) test that looks for both antibodies and P24 protein antigens? I don’t object to going to homosexual clinic centers, such as Qmunity. You said that the test is able to detect the presence of virus in just 4 days post-exposure. Could you please let me know what the accuracy level for the test which detects the antigen portion of the virus after 3 weeks (more than
22 days) is?
First of all thank you for providing this service and all the good work that you do.
I have a question regarding my case. I had encounter with a sex worker on september 17th. It was protected vaginal and unprotected oral. Since then I have had the following tests
- Day14 - DNA PCR test (negative)
- Day 22 - DNA PCR test plus antibody test (negative)
- Day 25 - rapid blood test (negative)
- Day 46 - rapid oral swab In-Home test (negative)
Does this give a good indication that I'm negative? Please let me know. I'm very very anxious. I got diarrhea yesterday and today too. Very very scared.
At times I scratch in between my buttcheeks. If the man I was with rubbed inbetween my buttcheeks and ejaculated without any penetration is there a chance for HIV? No blood, no persistant itching. Just scratching earlier that day. Am I overreacting?

Hi , I had an embarassing situation on 31 oct as things got linked and I ended up in an brothel on Desker road. I had two exposures. In first as I was very much afraid I just kissed the CSW and she gave me a handjob with condom which was safer I think. But in second exposure I had protected intercourse with the CSW and after the intercourse when I was removing the condom from my penis I used the tissue and with the same tissue I cleaned the penis top , so my concern here is that the tissue had been in contact with the vaginal fluid on the condom and same fluid touched my penis head . I am really freaked out with this and really anxious about this exposure. I went to doctor he suggested me to go for PEP even though the risk is low. I started PEP at 45th hour. Do you think it was really risky and what are the changes of PEP success ?
I had an erotic massage in a parlor, where the attendant was fully dressed but i was uncovered. The attendant gave me a massage with oil on the back and gluteal region and then gave me handjob, later cleaned with hot towel. Do you think I am at risk of HIV? I am deeply stressed... please help... should i get tested for HIV with this incidence?
I read from many reliable sources that having oral sex won't pose a risk of catching HIV even if the person who gives oral sex (sucks penis) swallows the entire sperm of the man who is being given oral sex.
According to the books that I read, the acid in the stomach would destroy the virus off, and so the virus won't have a chance of reaching the bloodstream. I think I don’t believe this theory because when I read other books, I found a very contradicting opinion of the same process, but of different nature.
The other books described that having the babies taking the milk directly from their HIV positive mother’s breasts would be highly potential for the mothers to transmit the HIV on to their babies. So my question is how come these two same processes confer different risk of contracting HIV. This is really, really unbelievable. How are you going to reconcile this conflicting theory?
Other, I often hear all the time the opinion from nurses or staffs in health clinics who opine that enzymes in the mouth would kill the HIV. Are there any scholarly/medical researches that support this theory? And if there are, are there some scientists who oppose this scientific research?
About 5 weeks ago I engaged in a low risk activity. The man placed
his penis on the upper side of my anus and moved until ejaculation.
Penetration never happened. His semen was in between my buttcheeks and around
my anus. Is there a risk. Why or why not? I got an 1/2 Antibody test done at
the 35 day mark which was Non reactive. Is that a good sign? Is it likely to
change? Thank you so much!
Long, long time ago, I read online on a dating website where there was somebody claimed to be immune to HIV. Actually, based on his pictures he posted on the website, he looked sexually attractive, but because he said that he was immune, I assumed that that guy must be having HIV and lying and dangerous because nobody is immune to HIV. I harbored a thought in my mind that that guy wanted to knock up people with the virus, so I backed off chasing him. However, a few years afterward, I came across a scientific paper online which stated that there were a few groups of people who are immune to HIV.
Now, I have a gay friend whose partner for 13 years died young of HIV. He said to me that it was all the way to the midst of their 13-year relationship they knew that one of them was HIV positive after being medically tested. Since then, they always used condoms when they had sex – but NOT before the diagnosis/test. The weird thing was the other partner who is now my friend was free of HIV even till today. And this friend of mine said that he believes his deceased partner had contracted HIV for years before the test.
Now, this guy is extremely infatuated with me, and I am crazy in love with him as well. And now, my mind has changed, and I even believe that having UNPROTECTED sex with HIV immune people like him wouldn't pose any risk of acquiring HIV because these people are permanently free of HIV. Even if the virus successfully penetrated his body, the white blood cell in his body directly kills the virus before it having a chance to replicate.
What do you think?
I am so scared that last night I had long, UNPROTECTED oral sexual intercourse, and even for a few minutes, I also engaged in protected penetrative anal sexual intercourse with a guy that I didn’t know. During the activities, I took a passive role as I was the guy that received his penis orally and anally. He climaxed inside me, but the condom successfully caught all his sperm intact. There was no single leak suspected.
Before the sexual activity happened, I saw him so hot even if he is skinny, and that was why I buckled under when he asked me to go to his place; I even forget already where it is now. I met him in a gay bar in Davie Street.
However, after everything happened, I started to regret the entire thing that had happened, and now I am very anxious about having picked up HIV from him.
I am so sure that he has HIV because he looked not that sturdy physically and even actually old and facially ugly. The one thing that caused me to be so much worried was his sexual style. He did me oral sex, but sometimes he slid his teeth along the shaft of my dick back and forth while sucking it. Later on, he also pitted his full of pre-ejaculate penis’ head against mine (both penises erected), but after around 7 seconds, I asked him to stop, but the activity continued on with a safe anal sex.
I am so scared that I might have been infected with HIV. And then based on the conversations that I still memorize, he said that he loved eating cum, and indeed he ate my ejaculate in the end of the event. This means his sexual behaviour is not clean at all. He seemed to be very promiscuous and not to bother about contracting the sexual diseases. Also, he mentioned that he had had sex with 3 other guys in just 10 days before having sex with me. The only thing I am glad is I did not do dangerous anal sex with him. I didn’t ask about his HIV status as well.
Please address my concern thoroughly!
