Oral Sex & HIV transmission

Original Post Date:

Question:

 Hi,
This is Rahul, 30 yrs old from India. I had protected vaginal sex and also unprotected oral sex on the 25th Oct 2010. I was tested for HIV on the 11th Jan 2011 ie on 79 day and my result was negative.
Do I need to be tested once more to get an confirmed result?

Answer:

 Hi Mr. Rahul,
Having protected vaginal sex is a low risk activity for HIV transmission, and depending on whether or not you received or gave oral sex, they are neglible and low risk activities, respectively.  Test results at 3 months (84 days) are conclusive, so 79 days is just under that deadline.  Seeing as you're still thinking of it 10 months later, it is probably best to get another test, just to be sure, however I would expect the same negative result.
