Services in Ontario?

Original Post Date:

Question:

I've been told by many doctors that my risk was very low risk/no risk, they even said I didn't even need to test but I can't seem to get HIV out of my head. I've been totally traumatized because after my first clinic visit, the nurse kind of scared me to death. I've tested 3 times with third gen tests thus far. My 3 month test is coming up and that is making me more and more anxious. I feel like I've developed an HIV/AIDS phobia. Do you know of any services in Ontario that help very afraid individuals deal with this?

Answer:

 Hi there,

Thanks for using the AIDS Vancouver Helpline as your source for HIV/AIDS related information.

ACT, the AIDS Committee of Toronto, has a really great partner website www.aso411.ca, which can connect you with an Ontario based AIDS Service Organization (ASO) nearest you. Your local ASO will be able to connect you with local support services and help you address any HIV/AIDS concerns or questions that you may have.
Please also do not hesitate to call us here in Vancouver at 604.696.6444 if you any questions you may have about HIV/AIDS- transmission, myths, medications, life expectancy- we are happy to help you tackle any concerns you have about the virus.

Also, so you know, 95% of 3rd generation test results are accurate after 4-6 weeks and if the health care professionals are giving you assurances that you are low/no risk then that is extemely reliable, accurate information.

All the best,

Monica
