Hi, i had 2 time exposure first was high risk since 63 days and the second was since 32 days and was receiving oral sex only, I got tested two time it was HIV 1&2 ab and ag one was at 18 days from high risk one and the second was at 63 days from the first & 32 from last oral sex exposure ,it comes all negative,my question is this tests a GOOD indication for my negative resultes ?I know that I should test again after 3 months , but my worry that it will changed after 3 months thanks
Hi there & thank-you for using AIDS Vancouver as your source of HIV/AIDS related information.
The DUO Ab/Ag test (also called a 4th Generation test) is considered conclusive by many HIV specialists by 6 weeks (42 days). Even a generic antibody test will detects 95% of infections by 6 weeks (42 days). You are correct, international testing guidelines still recommend re-testing at 3 months (84 days) for completely accurate and conclusive results but given that you had a DUO test at 63 days, it is unlikely that your results will change. So yes, your negative result at 63 days and 32 days from your first and second exposure are very accurate (good) indications that you will test negative at 3 months as well. So, I would still recommend testing at 3 months to be completely sure, but I would expect the result to be the same.
As well, it may be helpful to know that receiving oral sex is actually considered negligible risk for HIV transmission, which means that although there is a potential for exchange of body fluids, but there has never been a confirmed report of HIV transmission this way.
Hope this helps and please let us know if we can provide you with any more information.
Take care,
Stephanie
